Soul Food 18 :: When the Inspiration Runs Dry

Soul Food 18 :: When the Inspiration Runs Dry

Ciaooo!

Like always, I write about different phases/moments I’m going through in my life and lately I’ve found myself in a period of gathering tons of information to inspire and motivate myself both personally and professionally.  To clarify, I don’t mean “inspiration running dry” in the sense of losing motivation to blog or write.  I mean the bigger feeling when you are just kind of passing through your day to day not feeling particularly motivated to do new things, think of new ideas or projects or push yourself to be happier and more fulfilled.  If you know the feeling, I’m with you there, and today I’m writing out some ways that I’ve found a cool resurgence of motivation as of late.

reverse your energy

I’ve definitely experienced long periods of just trying to get through my days and I remember in those moments feeling that I didn’t have the space or mental capacity to seek out new information or engage in anything new for that matter.  If you’re in that kind of space, I totally understand it and think that’s quite normal.  But one way to help pull yourself out of that and bring in new, positive energy is to just start looking around for information.  Maybe you’ve always had a hidden talent that you haven’t yet shared with the world.  Googling around, listening to a relevant podcast, or reading a book that has to do with honing or sharing that talent could spark some exciting thoughts and help motivate you to take the first step.

Even if you’re not sure what your end game is exactly, but you know you’re not satisfied or challenged where you are, starting to dig for something will reverse the stagnant path you’ve been on energetically and make way for new.

I’ve been craving something “more” lately in my professional life specifically, and I’m not sure yet how that will manifest itself.  What I’m doing in the meantime is completely surrounding myself with positive and inspiring books, podcasts, and even social media accounts of female entrepreneurs so that I can speed up the process of drawing something in.  I find that a great place to start is by reading a little more into a particular person that you admire.  Read their biography or watch their latest interviews or videos on YouTube.  Just jumping on a new wave of positivity and hopefulness can drastically change a previously “monotone” feeling.

Listen to your intuition and follow the signs

I mentioned in my previous post how *randomly* I stumbled upon the wealth of inspiration for me that has been #GIRLBOSS.  I was in a bookstore because my sister wanted to pick something up and, wandering around, my eyes found that pink cover.  Flash forward two months and I’m listening to all the podcasts, reading newsletters and gathering loads of valuable and inspiring information for something I’m interested in and had been thinking a lot about—working for myself.

If you’re feeling like you should stop into a particular store, or meet up with a specific friend you haven’t touched base with in a while, that’s an intuitive hit not to be ignored.  Once you start to recognize these “random” thoughts as things your subconscious or the Universe is guiding you to do, you’ll find yourself falling into these perfectly orchestrated moments that add value to your life.

As an example, the other day I was flipping through podcasts and was undecided on which one to land on.  All of a sudden I sneezed and my finger touched the screen of my phone, selecting one for me. (lol at that visual.)  Instead of backing out of it and continuing to search, I went with it and that podcast had a valuable piece of information hidden in it that I needed to hear.

Being in tune with those random “hits” throughout the day will always serve you well.  Trust your gut!

Ask!

This is the biggest one of them all.  The same way that no one can bring you something you want without you verbalizing that you want it, the Universe can’t help and guide you to good ideas if you don’t make it clear what you want to receive.

I ask quite literally.  I like to do this at night before bed or in the morning.  I just state my intentions as clearly as possible, even if that intention is broad.  “I want to learn more about ______”.  “I want to find a way to work for myself and still have x, y, z.” “I want to find a way to make more money/lose weight/get better sleep” you fill in the blank.  Be clear and mean what you say and watch your intuitive hits increase and your circumstances shift. (For more on manifesting with your thoughts and affirmations, see my previous post here.)

My mom used to remind me of this.  You can’t get upset that you haven’t received something if you’ve never asked.  Ask for whatever you want and get excited.

Are you guys inspiration gatherers at the moment too? Or are you finding yourself in a bit of a de-motivated rut? What do you do to snap out of it?

I really like your first tip on reserving energy. It’s so true that we tend to go on auto mode and if we’re not careful we could stay in that state for a long time.
Seeking new things to try or challenges is what I do to get myself excited and motivated to live again. I recently forced myself to join a public speaking club because I really wanted to improve that area but was afraid to take the first step FOR THE LONGEST TIME. But I’m glad I did it. Still scares the heck out of me, but I like the thrill.

That’s so amazing! Good for you for pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone. That’s so difficult and even now I sometimes hold back from doing things like joining a group/club that I know would be good for me just out of fear. Thank you for sharing that, so inspiring. xo

“Even if you’re not sure what your end game is exactly, but you know you’re not satisfied or challenged where you are, starting to dig for something will reverse the stagnant path you’ve been on energetically and make way for new.”

This sentence spoke to my soul because I have been feeling restless professionally lately.. so I do understand perfectly what you by mean by that. After wrestling with the feeling I finally realized that it is a blessing in disguise. Sort of like my internal clock setting me straight and telling me I can do so much more.

    Thank you!
