I had read a little bit about the beauty benefits of sleeping on a satin pillowcase, and about a month ago I saw one at a store and thought I’d put it to the test. Turns out I looove it! For a number of reasons, I am so pleased with what my new silky friend has done for my hair and skin and I want to share with you guys why!
Favorites first: the best beauty benefit of sleeping on a satin pillowcase for me is what it’s done for my skin. I sleep in approximately 1/4 inch of Egyptian Magic plus a serum every night and it has always bothered me that it rubbed off so quickly during the night.
(Also worth noting that I sleep on my stomach so my face is just all up in that pillow).
The silk of the pillowcase is much less absorbant than cotton, and therefore helps your skin retain moisture. It’s really been helping me get the most out of my nighttime creams and serums and wake up with bright and glowy skin.
The next lovely outcome of sleeping on silky smoothness is that it results in much less bed head hair. I won’t say that it goes away completely, because that also depends on how you sleep and how much you move around at night. However, the silk is much more gentle on hair and results in less knots, kinks and less crazy baby hairs (which was my main problem).
Also satin helps reduce the friction on your hair, which helps prevent breakages and split ends.
Silk is hypoallergenic. I don’t have any allergies but I always go for hypoallergenic bedding where possible. I love that the material has a natural resistance to dust.
The jury is still out on this one, as I’m not facing any wrinkle woes just yet, but silk is known to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles.
Quite honestly, it just feels lovely to sleep on! I’ve never really had silk pajamas or anything, so I never knew how nice the material feels, but it is so comfy. The luxuriousness alone sold me on this pillowcase from the first night!
