Buongiorno! 🙂
I have been a bit absent in the last two weeks or so because I went on vacation to my all-time happy place- Italy. This was an important trip for me because I finally stopped in the town where my mother grew up, and got to spend some time with my family there. I also attended the wedding of a dear friend of mine, and romped around the Amalfi Coast and Naples in the rest of my time.
For those that don’t know me, I lived in Milan for about three years and just moved to Boston last fall. In my time in Italy, I hadn’t yet made it to the Campania region so I was thrilled to be there. It turned out to be a truly magical place for me.
I wanted to share my adventures with you from the different places I stopped in, in a sort of photo diary. First up: Naples.
Enjoy xx
^^INCREDIBLE street art of the famous Leonardo Da Vinci painting: Lady with an Ermine. It’s identical I am still floored by this..
I then did an underground tour of Napoli Sotteranea, an ancient labyrinth of aqueducts and passages beneath the city originally used for extracting a particular type of stone from below ground and for channeling water from Mt. Vesuvius. There were extremely tight passageways to walk through. It was very interesting to listen to its history, including its last usage as a shelter during WWII. (source: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/italy/campania/naples/sights/historic/napoli-sotterranea)
Mt. Vesuvius in the background… they call it the sleeping giant because it looks like one sleeping on its back with its stomach up if you can make it out:)
The next four photos are views from the top of Castel dell’Ovo..
And there she is again.. so amazing every time.
Naples is really special. The views of the sea and Mt. Vesuvius are extraordinary, and the pizza is not bad either 😉 I was literally so excited about eating it that I forgot to take any pictures… both of the two times I had it.. 😀
I can definitely see myself there and have already started thinking about it… you never know 🙂
A presto,
Amanda <3
